ACMF Benefit for Visiting Nurses Association
By Matthew Toledo - 8/14/2000
The third annual Athens Music Community Festival will be held this August 19th. This year's festival will feature 17 local bands. Event proceeds will be donated to the Athens County Visiting Nurses Association. In the past, this annual event was held on the top level of the public parking garage. Unfortunately, the parking garage is undergoing renovations and will not be fit for public use in time for the concert. Concert organizers Scott Winland and Jim Fuller had to scramble to come up with an alternate plan.
This year, the AMCF will be held simultaneously at 3 different bars following an initial kickoff party at the Ohio University's, Front Room located in Baker Center. Immediately following the last performance at the kickoff party, the event will move into The Union, Casa Cantina, and O'hooleys. You can purchase a wrist band at the Front Room or any of the participating venues for four dollars. Anyone wearing a wrist band see any of the performances at any of the bars without having to pay the cover charge at the door. Scott Winland stated that this way "people can build their own show" by visiting the bars with the bands they want to hear.

Of the many bands slated for the event, some are no-doubtedly familiar. Many of the bands have sound clips on the AMN. ADR (Appalachian Death Ride), Space Wanker 5000, Bruce Dalzell, Geraldine, Planet 12, and this month's artist of the month, J.D. Hutchison all have sound clips on this site.
Tony Xenos was the founding member of the recently defunct Cactus Pears. He now performs solo and with his new experimental group, Rubberband Racecar Go. Stella, which was the AMN Band of the month in November 1999, features many well known local musicians including Laura Nadeu and Catfish.
