A Note From Galen Mullins: Winner of the First Ever Johny B. Scholarship Fund Award

By Galen Mullins - 2/6/2001

Hello,

My name is Galen Mullins. I am the honored recipient of the Johnny B. Scholarship Fund, which was raised at the John Lennon Benefit on Dec. 8, 2000, sponsored by the Circle 5 Musician Co-op. Thank you So, very, very much June Bug, Johnny B., Scott Winland, Matt Toledo, Dave Baer, Rat, Cat Fish, Brian Gibson, Roman, Jorma and Vanessa and all the other people who helped partake in this event. I can¹t thank you enough for the scholarship. It is amazing what a group of people can do to help the community.

I¹m 14, almost 15, and I go to Athens High School. I play four instruments: Bass and trumpet being the primary, and guitar and mandolin (but I¹m new at that one). I play trumpet in Ernie Bastein's A.C.M.S. jazz band, and I am a major soloist in his band. You might even consider coming to a performance. I enjoy writing songs and playing with my small band. We hope to participate in a local fundraiser, charity event coming up later this month. My favorite musical artists are Led Zeppelin , Nirvana , Jimmy Hendrix , Funkadelic and Primus. I hope to learn how to slap from Roman, very badly, because I love the sound of it, and it is a hard concept to grasp.

Thank you again,
Galen Mullins

Galen, I think it is great that you play
a variety of instruments, don't ever give music up.
