The Pomeroy
Blues and Jazz society, affectionately called the PB&J by Pomeranians, will hold a fundraiser event at the Court Street Grill located
in downtown Pomeroy this Friday, May 11, 2001. Bands slated to
play the event are Break of Day, Planet 12, and Phil & the Blanks. The show starts around 9:00 PM. The Goal of the PB&J
is "to sponsor and promote live blues and jazz artists in Pomeroy, Ohio." They accomplish this by hosting performances at the new Pomeroy Riverside Amphitheater,
which overlooks the Ohio River. Society president Jackie Welker
states on his web site that, "our community [Pomeroy] has this beautiful amphitheater that makes a great venue
for small, intimate performances. Most importantly to us, blues and jazz
music are uniquely American art forms that we want to promote. All of
these things together just seem to make a good thing to do for everyone
who lives in or near Pomeroy." The Court Street Grill been an
avid supporter of local, regional, and national blues and jazz artists,
as well as other genres of music. Evidence of their support of diverse
musical generes can be seen in the choice of bands for the fundraiser
event. Both Break of Day and Phil & the Blanks are rock bands while Planet 12 is an indie pop band. Former Court Street Grill bartender
and current audio technician at Peach Fork Studios, Adam M. Krawsczyn
organized the charity event. His involvement with the PB&J started when was a bartender and continues to this day. His taste in music
is vast. Adam can be seen at all manner of concerts from the recent Peach
Tree gathering to shows at the Smiling Skull and the Union. Proceeds from the door money at
Friday's show will go towards funding the PB&J concert series. Details on the series can be found on the PB&J website. One PB&J sponsored concert of note for local musicians will occur at the Pomeroy Amphitheater
on July 28, 2001. At 11 am, there will be a battle of the bands. The
entrance fee for this fundraiser / concert event is $25 and the proceeds
will help fund the PB&J battle chest. If you are interested in becoming
a member of the PB&Js, you can contact Jackie Welker by e-mail, or by phone at 740-992-6524.
