BY GEORGE, IT'S THE SHAFT AID DIARY!
By George Blatz Jr. - 4/5/2002
(In a brief - and rare - moment of sobriety, Shaft editor George Blatz tips his glass to you, lover of local music, comedy and furry wittle felines, for your support of his humor publication and the Athens County Cat Shelter at Shaft Aid 3 February 28 at Casa Cantina.)

Thank you. Moochass grassyest. Mercy buckets. Do 'mo aree gato.
What can I say, folks? Because you skipped your emergency-room drama of choice to brave the bitterly cold night of Thursday, February 28 for us (or it was a rerun; don't flatter yourself, GB), I was able to drop off a nice fat C-note to the county cat shelter the following Saturday.
Great place, too, that shelter. They're always needing weekday volunteers and they'll need plenty for the summer, too, so if you happen to feel really bad for some reason - you cheated on your girl- or boyfriend, added a few choice cuss words to a roommate's cover letter or just neglected to hold that heavy door for the old lady with the cane who had to kick her shopping bags up the stairs - spend a few hours with some stress-lifting furballs to get a head start on burning that karma. You'll be surprised how much better you'll feel when you leave. (You probably won't be ready to talk infidelities yet, but the right time'll come - like in the form of an encrypted letter you can leave beneath her bed that she'll read three boyfriends later. It's off your chest, right?)
Thanks also to the selfless somebodys who lent their talents to the effort, especially Conrad Dillon and Eric Moneypenny, who've been there for me since the first show last April and never disappoint. Kudos, too, to that bizarre bastard Ryan Arey, who filled in at the last minute, and to Akimbo, who played what may have been the longest set I've heard without showing a bit of fatigue. But I expected nothing less from one of the best bands in town.
And I'm spent. We're trying to
get the Front Room for a show on Thursday, May 23 - which had fucking
better be a warmer night - and we'll need a couple of more bands to help
and a place to send the cash, so if you've got a thought or two on the
matter drop me a line at blatz@frognet.net. Thanks again, all. God bless.
