Get Hip records is sponsoring a show at the Union tonight featureing a band from Sweeden. Or as Tom Green once sang, "Sweeeeeeeeeden." (Thanks Tom, that yet another reason why Europeans think Americans are a-holes)

The Mainliners combine the Stooges' raw exuberance with good old British rhythm and blues and a taste of Kinks pop sense producing an explosive yet soothing sound. Front man Robert Billing's voice is slightly reminiscent of a young Van Morrison and will surely give the Hives' Howlin' Pelle a run for his money. Such a visceral voice is accented by furious guitar work; trashcan drum beats and solid bass lines. The Mainliners are not formula rock. Their musical influences go from 60s Them to 70s Mott the Hopple to 80s Sweden garage cult band The Creeps. They're smooth, confident and original attacking rock 'n' roll with a fuck-all attitude and the songs to back it up

Legendary country music artist, Travis Tritt, with special guest Trick Pony will perform in Athens at Ohio University’s Peden Stadium on June 17, 2005. This event will mark the first time that a concert has ever been held at Ohio University’s Peden Stadium.
"The event will be a joint effort put forth by the Blue Gator, Ohio University, and the city of Athens," said Joel Schechtman, who owns the Blue Gator. "As well, this concert will help the ongoing effort to establish Southeast Ohio as a major music market."
Tritt, who is from Marietta, Georgia, had his first top 10 single in 1989, with "Country Club." His 2000 album, "Down the Road I Go," reached platinum status and spawned four top 10 hits. His current project is "My Honky Tonk History," which includes a duet with John Mellencamp, a guest appearance by Bela Fleck, and songs written by Gretchen Wilson, Delbert McClinton, and Benmont Tench of Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers.
Little known factoid: I used to live in Marietta, Georgia. It's a suburb of Atlanta. It even has a subway system. Well, out there its more like a train that turns into a subway downtown.
Tritt Pony earned a Grammy nomination in 2003 for Best Country Performance by A Duo or Group with Vocal for the hit "Just What I Do" and was the Favorite New Country Artist at the 2002 American Music Awards.
