2007 Athens Community Music Festival Preview and Interactive Schedule
By Matthew Toledo - 8/7/2007
For nine years now, local musician Scott Winland and local businessman Jim Fuller have teamed together to promote and produce the Athens Community Music Fest. This year's festival will take place on Saturday August 11, 2007 starting at 4:00 PM at the new Baker Center Front Room. Venues participating in this year's festival include the afore mentioned Front Room as well as The Smiling Skull, Jackie O's, The Union, The Donkey, The Salaam Cafe, Casa Nueva, and The Blue Gator. Like in previous years, this year's festival will primarily benefit the Appalachian Community Visiting Nurses Association with some money going to the Athens Musician Network.

The festival features 36 bands and solo acts all of which are active in the local music scene. It is the only music festival in Athens that exclusively showcases the amazing vast and diverse local musical talent that can be found any weekend in downtown Athens, Ohio. Acts range from sublime folk to raucous metal and all the stops in-between.
First-Ever ACMF Awards Ceremony
This year the organizers of the event plan to give merit awards to individuals who have given their blood, sweat and bile to the local music scene over the years through their hard work and musical talent. Chris Beister, solo artist and front man for Appalachian Death Ride, is one of this years recipients (story to come).
When asked about the new addition of an awards ceremony to the community festival, Scott Winland stated ""I'd really like to encourage everyone to come out and show support and appreciation for this great local songwriter/musician. Plans are currently in the works for a bigger awards ceremony next year, featuring at least a dozen categories - more of a red carpet affair, perhaps the night before the music fest. I'm still working that one out!"
How Do I Get On The Lineup?
Recent arrivals to the local music scene often ask how the organizers determine which local acts get to play the festival. "Everyone who asked to play this year is playing. Or more importantly, anyone who isn't playing didn't ask.", stated organizer Scott Win land. "I will probably always ask everyone I can think of, but bands are encouraged to get in touch if they'd like to play." The only qualification is that you have to be a local artist to participate in the Festival. No import acts are allowed.
AMN's Interactive Schedule
Once again, you can take advantage of the AMN's handy interactive schedule to plan your evening. It works much like a "choose your own adventure book." Bands are organized by time slots. Simply click on the bands you think you'll see, then click on the button labeled "Print Schedule" to print it with your printer.
Step 1:
Place a dot next to each band that you wish to see. The schedule keeps you
from picking two bands that are scheduled to start playing at the same time.
Step 2:
When you are finished, click on "Print Schedule." If you made a mistake, click "Start Over."
