The Revulvas, Reloaded.

By Mike Makosky - 4/15/2008

The Revulvas, originally formed in 2005, have recently added a new guitarist, Britt, out of Columbus, formally of Ragdoll Radio and Teenage Grenade (both from Cleveland). She brings a new "bluesy, rockin, solo-in style to the band". I had a chance to sit down and chat with The Revulvas about their new lineup change; after all, they were just hanging out in my kitchen.

AMN: How did the new lineup come about?

Britt: "Cara had mentioned to her cousin Josh that they were looking for a second guitarist... a couple weeks later he ran into me at one of the Ohio State libraries."

Cara: "Britt came to see us play in Columbus, to see if we could all get drunk in the same room (laughs)"

Britt: "I liked everybody and had a good feeling about it"

Britt started practicing with the Revulvas and clicked right away. Their original plan was to have two guitarists, but unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, Kari (the original guitarist) wasn't able to attend these same practices. These conflicts, along with Kari's increasingly busy schedule led to her eventually leaving the band.

Recently, I ran into Kari and asked her about it, she said that they are all still friends, she continues to play guitar, though mostly acoustic now, and is looking forward to seeing them play with the new lineup at this years Blackout Fest.

AMN: How has the addition of a new guitarist changed the band?

Jess: "It's revived the energy"

Cara: "...gotten us out of our comfort zone, different venues, different people, equals more freedom to express ourselves and rock harder"

Jess: "the different venues also give the songs and performance a new life."

AMN: You also changed your name recently, dropped the "Loaded", did that have anything to do with the new lineup?

Chandra: "No, the name change happened months before..."

Cara: "I think we got sick of being called 'Velvet Revolver'... also for half a second we decided maybe we should be responsible and do things without drinking"

Chandra: "...that didn't last long" (laughter all around)

AMN: What does the future hold for The Revulvas?

Cara: "... writing new shit, new shows, new venues..."

Chandra: "we've started recording with Disjointed Records and would like to have a CD out soon-ish"

Britt: "Id really like to bust into the DIY Columbus scene, house parties and such"

Cara: "Spontaneous combustion (laughs).... actually it would be cool if we could use our influence to get some more punk and metal, an alternative to what we currently have with the Athens music scene... more punk!"

AMN: Here they trail off into a discussion of unicorns, pegacorns, and pegasus'. In case you don't know already, a unicorn has a horn, a pegasus has wings, and a pegacorn has it all

The Revulvas have upcoming shows:

Athens at 19 South on May 8th with The Buzzkills from Indianapolis, Gem City Saints and Atomic Johnny, both from Dayton

Dayton May 18th for "Rain Fest"

... and various bookings in Cincinnati and Columbus in the coming months.
