Let's have a little background for those stalker types. Here's the official Uncle Fun (musical) Biography.

I'm part of the "old-school" scene. I came to Athens in September 1984, since that time I've been in numerous bands in town. Rabid Penguins (big dumb rock), Slot Jockey (silly fast rock), Bitch Slap (one show band mostly indie band covers and tequila), Dug Black (narcoleptic stoner punk), 12 Gauge (probably my "artiest" effort, chick singer, poetic lyrics, but still pounding rock, I had an aluminum necked Kramer bass and had a penchant for breaking beer bottles with it), Appalachian Death Ride (I was the first replacement bass player after Adam moved away), Catheter Hepburn (caveman art rock), Bargoyle (melodic/punk speed core). Right at the end of Bargoyle, Slot Jockey becomes a generic name for bands thrown together to fill a void in a lineup. Hell I’m probably forgetting something, but that about does it.

I did forget one...I played bass in Planet of Pants as well.


I’ve been the bass player (not bassist) in about half of these and the guitar player in the other half, except Bargoyle where we switched instruments. I was also the vocal stylist in about half of these.

Gear, I’ve been pretty consistent with what I’ve played…always was working toward an ideal anyway.

Most of the time I was bassing it up I ran a Hartke 2000 through the aforementioned Peavey 2X15, it’s on hell of a cabinet.

I always wanted an Ampeg SVT (all tube 300) with the Ampeg 8X10 “refrigerator cabinet.

My main guitar has always been a 1977 Gibson Les Paul Standard Tobacco Burst being molested by Scott Karn in the picture, just Like Ace Frehley’s smoking guitar, except for the false pickup on Ace’s.
I’ve usually had spares as well, custom Tele copy, 83 Gibson Flying V black with white pickguard, non-Korina the one in the bunny picture, 81 Gibson SG Red, I got this for 125 in ’92 sold it for too little too, ’67 Gibson SG, (so I like Gibsons).

Guitar rig has varied, I had the Ampeg V-4 that I used for bass and guitar, Bass through a 2X15 when I played guitar I ran it through a 4X12 Carvin cab. I switched to a Fender something or other 2X12 combo for about a week and a half, solid state, hated it…loved the portability, but couldn’t get a thunderous crunch I wanted, so I took the plunge, I bought 4 Celestion Greenback’s and had my cab re-wired, and bought a Marshall 50 watt head, and ’91 SLX-900 it has some solid state thinga-majiggy wired into the pre-amp, but it did have the full complement of tubs and sounded great this was my main guitar rig for most of my life, but several years ago I swapped this rig for the Satan amp. Which is a late 60’s or early 70’s 50 watt tube Hiwatt 1X12 combo amp? THIS AMP IS THE LOUDEST AMP EVER PRODUCED.

I’m not bragging, but it is the most painful amp I’ve ever seen, 3 is brutal on stage. So that and the Les Paul is what I play now….sorry I’m somewhat of an equipment geek so I’ll ramble occasionally.
