Interesting Facts about ChinaPosted On: Wed Feb 15 2006 1:25:45 EST- [ permalink ]
I recently had to write a paper about Chinese culture for my Sociology class. Here is some info I dug up for the paper.
More people are able to speak English in China than in all of the United States. Mainly because they have 1.4 billion people, but it's still a weird fact. More Chinese people work for American corporations in China than Americans work for American corporations in America. Lastly, a saying "In China, old women don't gossip, they talk business. Americans only gossip, because all the business was sent to China" Source: http://www.glumbert.com/media/hahahaamerica.html Last fact: What company is the largest employer in America? Wall-Mart. What does Wall-Mart produce, create, or export? Nothing. And we wonder why America is in debt up to our eyeballs. Glad we're fighting a war right now. We can afford it, right? Well, the US economy did grow 4% last year. Not bad. China's economy grew 10%. We don't have enough money to support the war effort. China and other nations are lending us the money to fight it by purchasing our bonds and our currency. Say stuff like this to Republicans and they'll call you a raging liberal and an isolationist. "Isolationist" is the new talking point for conservatives these days. Since when did fiscal conservativism become an isolationist ideal? Seven years ago it was the staple of the Republican party.

Kenny... Recording...Posted On: Tue Feb 14 2006 23:03:47 EST- [ permalink ]
Our guitarist almost died in a car accident this weekend. Evidently, he was riding in the passenger seat of a car going 120 on a back road. They came close to wrecking, or slammed on the breaks and wrecked durring the deceleration. I'm not sure of the details because I can't find his myspace blog just now. My connection at work is flaking out. It is so flakey that it will be a miracle if this post actually makes it online. Anyhow, Kenny is allright, although he may have whiplash.
About a week ago, I had some free time to write some songs and try out the recording software that came with my USB pre-amp. In plain english: I used a day off from school to record some lo-fi recordings with my digital recorder. The goal was to write some disposable songs so that I could practice mixing and mastering. I ended up spending 8 hours on 2 songs. At the end of the day, I was so proud of the tunes I had come up with that I was ready to send them to Sony. Now that I have had a few days to think it over. The stuff I came up with fufilled it's original intent and nothing more. They are trully crappy songs. Who knows, if I come up with some other stuff, I may share it on this blog. Here's a point of pride, I suppose: I brought my self to sing on the recording. I didn't like the way my voice sounded by itself, so I ended up adding a total of 7 vocal tracks. In the end, I sounded like a choir. It was pretty cool, actually.

Political BlogsPosted On: Mon Feb 13 2006 14:55:35 EST- [ permalink ]
I had told myself that I was going to stop blogging about politics because it seemed real pointless. I felt like all I was doing was to help polarize the nation. I consider myself to be a moderate, but in today's political climate, conservatives consider anyone who isn't conservative a liberal. True, I guess moderates are more liberal than conservatives by definition.
Why start writing about politics again? Well, I was just browsing through the blogsphere and ran into some conservative blogs and they seemed to have a couple things in common. They all seem to pick on Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and Ted Kennedy. I could understand Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy. They are still in office and as such has the ability to make policy. But Bill Clinton? The dude's been out of power for how many years now. I just get the impression that the Conservative types have absolutely no one to blame for all the failures of the current administration since they pretty much own the whole kit-and-caboodle. So instead of placing blame where it belongs, they go waaay out of there way to criticize the few dissenting voices left. When I was growing up. Republicans stood for smaller government and financial responsibility. Today, they are doing neither. Who can they blame for that? Bill Clinton.
