Bike Ride / Ford Fix / New York

Our car's alternator, or some sort of electrical short, causes our battery to slowly drain. When your car is turned on, there should be 14 volts of electricity coursing through your electronics. Our car only generates 12.3 volts. Anything below 12.6, and your battery is slowly being drained. If we turn on our headlights, our battery falls into the danger zone of 12 volts or lower within about fifteen minutes.

We took the car to one place in town and all they did was remove the fuse for the radio. That slowed the rate of the drain, but I NEED a radio when I drive. So, this morning I strapped my bike rack onto our car, put the bike on the bike rack, and drove 4 miles into Athens. This time, we left the car with the mechanics at the Ford dealership. I figure, they should know how to fix a Ford's electrical problems. At least, I hope they can fix the problem. Electrical issues are perplexing.

Luckily, my Odesk web design clients have been keeping me busy, so we have sufficient funds to get the car fixed the right way the first time. Astorg Cheverolet gave me some junk mail stating that I was pre-qualified for a car loan. I'm tempted, sharing a car can be a drag sometimes, but there is no way I would be able to afford all the payments in a year. I graduate this Fall. Then I have 6 months before I have to start paying off student loans. There is no guarentee that I'll find a job that can cover my student loan payment AND a car payment AND insurance, gas, oil changes, etc. I'll wait until I get a real job, then buy a car.

After dropping Jodi off at work, and dropping the car off at the dealership, I hoped on my bike and took the bike path to Richland, and Richland to the Highway, and the highway for about 3/4 of a mile back home. The whole trip took 40 minutes, and I didn't start sweating until I got off the bike.

It was a fun trip. I just wish they would put sidewalks out to the Highway. I see people walking on the side of the road all the time. We deserve a sidewalk from Richland, underneath the new bypass, to 32.

Here are some shots of the river from my bike ride.

Well, Jodi and I are going to San Francisco this week to meet with Jodi's sister and some of our friends. I might even catch up with an old high school swim-team buddy of mine. We'll see. We may even see Radio Head if we can afford the tickets. Unfortunately, this trip means that I can't play with We March in New York city. That really sucks. I'd love to play New York. I have friends and family there, and I absolutely LOVE New York. If I could afford to live there, I would live there for a couple of years. Let me rephrase that... if I could affort to LIVE WELL out there, I would. The difference between the slums of Athens and the slums of New York: Athens is less "stabby" and has less crack.
