| Ekoostik Hookah | One of the most dynamic acts on the road today, ekoostik hookah is the nucleus of a growing family drawn to its lucid, improvisational treatment of psychedelic rock ’n’ roll, blues, funk, jazz and bluegrass layered with rich harmonies. Born early in 1991 in a smoky basement bar, the band has been continually evolving, cultivating a sound that has perked the ears of contemporaries and attracted thousands of fans who routinely travel hundreds of miles to hear them play. | Enon | Enon is a band from Brooklyn, NY. They used to be a foursome, but are now a solidified three-piece. John Schmersal (guitar, bass, synths, vocals) spent time in a hot-shit band called Brainiac. Toko Yasuda (bass, synths, vocals) has a past with Blonde Redhead and The Lapse. Matt Schulz (drums) used to rock it in The Lab Partners. But that’s really not important now. What IS important is that these three found each other and started making music together.
Some bands are content to develop a "trademark sound"; Enon continuously expands on any and every aspect of their music. Enon manages to bring something new to the table with each release, while still retaining a common thread tying the records together. [ 3 Songs ] [ 2 Concerts ] [ 1 Photo ] |

With 5 studio albums, 2 EPs, and numerous soundtracks and compilations to her credit, the 28-year-old songwriter and multi-instrumentalist hasn't stopped for a breather in the last 10 years. Along the way she has averaged 200 shows a year and garnered the praise of fans and critics alike. | The Everybodyfields | THE EVERYBODYFIELDS Sam Quinn and Jill Andrews met at summer camp and have been writing songs together ever since. Their first two albums showcased an Americana act blending folk, country and bluegrass. Andrews' raw, wanton alto and Quin's wobbly twang harmonized nicely over songs ranging from the soulful old-timey ode "By Your Side" to the sweet, rootsy pop tune "So Good." But with the departure of Dobro player David Richey, the band have moved away from that traditional sound. Their latest combo, featuring pedal steel, electric guitar and keyboards, contributes to a more rocking third album. Due in mid-August, Nothing Is Okay ranges from the shambling "Aeroplane," whose homey melody recalls The Band, to the swelling, reverb-drenched guitar of "Don’t Turn Around," reminiscent of a backwoods My Morning Jacket. —CHRIS PARKER Nashville Scene - Critics Picks [ 3 Concerts ] [ 1 Photo ] |
| Evil Beaver | How is it possible for two people to kick such serious ass? For Evil Beaver, it seems as natural as breathing." -- Venus Magazine "A reevaluation of grunge is surely on its way, and this is a fine place to start" -- Chicago Reader "In fact, the most outrageuos thing about Evil Beaver may be their determination to inject over-the-top fun back into rock and roll." -- Chicago Tribune
