The percentage of total shows played in Athens' Venues by Local Acts 1997: 62% ** 1998: 58% 1999: 63% 2000: 66% 2001: 60% 2002: 55% 2003: 53% 2004: 49% 2005: 52% 2006: 48% 2007: 48% 2008: 42% ** ** not a full year of stats The trend is for out-of-town bands to displace local acts. That, or there are now fewer local acts. |

Are these based solely on shows that were posted on the AMN? |

I like where you are going with this. How about, which club has had the most indigenous bands and of course, a curve to the venues who have-not? |

This has to be only shows listed on AMN because almost all those bands have played way more shows in the last eleven years. |

Pretty accurate number of shows... I always add the local shows listed in the papers if the bands already haven't added them themselves... the whole point of the AMN is to be a resource for researchers. For example: Curtis told me that We March played more shows than that in Athens. He said, "We've played more than 9.5 Athens shows per year" But what he didn't get was that We March wasn't even around in 1997. On the other hand, for a few years there, I remember them playing the Union 2 or 3 times a month. And recently, they've only played three Athens shows in the last 4 months. So 95 sounds pretty realistic to me. Perhaps you can + or - the number by a few shows, but I wager it's pretty accurate. |
