Bad News from Black Lung Records: "The rocknroll world lost one of the all time great guitar players last night.. Mr Matthew Odietus of the almighty Candy Snatchers died in his home town of Virginia Beach,VA on June 28. Matt will be sorely missed by many people. My heart goes out to his mother and everyone else who counted matt as a friend. If you don't know about the Candy Snatchers you should. |

this is pure hearsay but i heard their reputation here in athens isn't what i would consider "sparkling"....anyway that's sucks for dudes family/friends....BTW is that a picture of shannah in yer avatar? |

That's really sad news. The Candy Snatchers were a really fun band - played some great shows here...and a couple that were wasted blurs of sets with fill-in drummers, etc. Sometimes some trouble came with them and their shows - but Larry and Matt were always super cool, and helped get shows for tons of bands in Virginia. Sad news. Yes - if you haven't heard of em, you should check em out. |

Candy Snatchers Posted on July 21st, 2008 by Donny I learned last week Matt from the candy snatchers has died. Sucks I�ll miss this guy! I remember we did a tour with them back in the 90�s it was awesome! There was one particular night in Long Beach, I don�t remember the club, but it was before Alex�s bar was open but Alex booked the show. I think the line up was Zeke, Candy Snatchers and Throw Rag. The guy�s from the Humpers where hanging out and Dexter from The Offspring was there kind of a strange intense evening. Throw Rag played and we thought they where so cool, we told our label at the time they should sign them! Then the Candy Snatchers came on unknown to us this was to be a legendary show for them. The set was going well, the crowed was getting more and more crazy, Larry was hitting himself and starting to bleed, when Matt gets pissed at Willie and they start to fight, that�s when Matt clocks Willie over the head with the guitar, the crowed goes wild. Next thing you know security gets on stage, grabs Willie and throws him out of the club, set over! Wow that was awesome, I�ll never forget the ball of untamed punk rock energy that was the CANDY SNATCHERS! |

That's bad news. I've had some fun times with Matt over the years and have heard some doozie stories. The Candy Snatchers are one of the coolest rock acts to hit the road. Time to put on Human Zoo and party wasted. I've recently heard that a local scenster has also passed. Is this true? |
