333 Voodoo sex music is the three word combination used to describe the sound of Columbus, OH based rock quartet 333. 333 balance a tender contrast of salacious female vocals and brutally grim rock. The band's music ranges from dark chant-like anthems to lullaby’s interrupted by nightmarish screams. Amidst all of this contrast the songs still manage to maintain a simple structure laden with plenty of hooks and sing alongs as well as poetic lyrical content.

Bakelite 78 Arriving in Chicago in 2000, singer and guitarist Robert Rial continued a musical direction he started at college in southeastern Ohio. Robert emulated the styles he loved most: country blues and swing, Vaudeville, Tin Pan Alley, American folk songs, jazz and mountain music. Many of these styles of music were originally released on 78-speed records. Some 78s were made from a "new" material, an early form of plastic called Bakelite. Bakelite 78 records preserved the music of this era. Bakelite 78 the band was born to bring them back to life.

Boxcar Satan Splendid Webzine March 24, 2004 -- "This San Antonio trio makes a gratifyingly ugly noise out of junkyard scraps of punk, blues and unclassifiable weirdos like Beefheart and The Birthday Party. Buzzsaw guitars and bent buzzing bass lie beneath sandpaper vocals, creating a scratchy, alien racket that's much smarter than it initially appears to be. Ricocheting from barroom brawl blues to zydeco to Twin Peak-ish vibraphonery to pseudo gospel, the band spreads a layer of grit wherever it goes."

Buffalo Killers From the ashes of Cincinnati's late, great Thee Shams, the Gabbard brothers (Andrew on lead guitar and Zachary on bass) move from the Memphis garage to the dark, dank swamps of Boogieland. Buffalo Killers is a sharp ninety degree turn from their past, and the brothers' sympathetic playing is anchored by the sonic heartbeat of drummer Joe Sabaali. You can't really pin down the sound, though. Psychedelic, Joe Walsh (Barnstorm era), stoner blues, Neil Young grunge, trippy-era Hendrix, southern rock, Grand Funk, Skynyrdit's all in there somewhere. Live, the trio is mesmerizing, sliding from Mountain/Cream syncopation to what could best be described as Vanilla Fudge on mushrooms trying to play their entire catalogue without pause. - Bill Holmes / Pop Culture Press

Captain Exploder We're not terrible. We're not terribly good, either. We are a two-piece rock band from Columbus, Ohio. Our sound is a schizophrenic-but-fluid blend of catchy indie pop (i nearly typed "poop" here) and experimental riff-rock. We have never been able to choose between 3-minute rock songs and 6-minute spacey epics. So we play both. Then we go out for some frosty milkshakes. Mmmmm... milkshakes. You like milkshakes, don't you?

Don Caballero Don Caballero is essentially from Pittsburgh. You got it, three rivers. Don Caballero II, their second for Touch and Go, was recorded by producer Al Sutton at White Room Studios in Detroit. It was actually in a white room. Their first LP, For Respect, was recorded in Chicago by Steve Albini. Yeah, Don Caballero is instrumental, what's it to ya? Most don't realise that fact until they're told. They have been since their inception in 1991. Their first two singles were as a trio! Yeah, you're sayin' "instrumental." Well not on this album. They are more rock orientated than jazz, though many have said the contrary. The drums are the lead, while the guitars drive the beast. Emphasis on structure and composition, not to prove how accomplished they are, but to kick it. Don Caballero bare all their yellowed teeth, including fangs, on this one. Put it in, keep it in, and for chrissakes, turn it up NOW!

Enon Enon is a band from Brooklyn, NY. They used to be a foursome, but are now a solidified three-piece. John Schmersal (guitar, bass, synths, vocals) spent time in a hot-shit band called Brainiac. Toko Yasuda (bass, synths, vocals) has a past with Blonde Redhead and The Lapse. Matt Schulz (drums) used to rock it in The Lab Partners. But that’s really not important now. What IS important is that these three found each other and started making music together. Some bands are content to develop a "trademark sound"; Enon continuously expands on any and every aspect of their music. Enon manages to bring something new to the table with each release, while still retaining a common thread tying the records together.

Clark works slowly and with strict attention to detail, and has produced an impressive collection of timeless gems, leaving very little waste behind. The emotional level of his work, as well as the admiration and esteem of his peers, consistently transcends sales figures and musical genres. Using everyday language to construct extraordinary songs for more than 35 years, Clark continues to be the type of songwriter whom young artists study and seasoned writers, as well discriminating listeners, revere.

Holly Golightly Holly Golightly (real name) started her musical career as a founder member of all girl garage band Thee Headcoatees, a Billy Childish / Thee Headcoats splinter group in 1991. Holly Golightly is definitely the most interesting and diverse artist to come out of the Billy Childish school and is certainly one of the better singer/songwriters of the post-grunge era. Since her debut in 1995, Golightly has been very prolific, releasing ten long play records and loads of singles for a wide variety of labels and has toured America eight times. Holly's sound has remained remarkably consistent throughout, but each record has a quality that sets it apart from the others. After playing several west coast shows with The White Stripes, and supporting them at their some of their London shows, Holly has become good friends with Jack and Meg, recording a duet with them, It's true that we love one another, for their latest album Elephant. Holly has also recently been recording in the US with garage band The Greenhornes and they released a special Christmas 2002 single together on Damaged Goods called Little Stars. Holly appears on the Greenhornes latest album Dual Mono which is out in the States on Telstar.

Lollipop Factory When Lollipop Factory isn't implementing it's plans for interstellar domination, the band boldly goes where many bands have gone before - in search of new audience and the final frontier. The band's four members join together in complex vocal harmonies laid over heavy rock music. The overall effect sounds something like a mix between Jellyfish and obscure prog-rockers, Gentle Giant. "Alot of the hair-bands that we're influenced by were really glam bands from the "70's," guitarist/vocalist, David Tweed said. "We always get pegged with the Queen-thing. I guess we have our tongue in Freddy's cheek a little bit." Along with it's orchestral arrangements and intricately stacked harmonies, Lollipop Factory likes to mix up their shows with musical time changes. "We like to pull the rug out from people every now and then," Tweed said. "We like to give people whiplash." The band's surre! al music is augmented by an energetic and visual stage show that adds to the psychedlic atmosphere. "We're the kind of band that people can just sit back and drink it all in."

Lost Sounds Before garage rock "broke out" into the world of MTV2, the foremost blueprint for what was to be the sound of the LOST SOUNDS was the Nuggets box set. But with a stockpile of analog keyboard previously collected for use in the new-wavy Sid barret-esque CLEARS and the Killed by Death/Bloodstains persuasion on members of the REATARDS an indescribable sound was forged. Rich, Jay and Alicja made haste and used these influences to fill a void between the both dying garage scene and suffering hardcore scene in Memphis.

Miranda Sound Miranda Sound give an almost effortless performance on Engaged In Labor, which comes just eight months after their debut, Baby Inertia. With a chemist's skill, this Columbus, Ohio, quartet blends elements of prog, spiky pop and emo into a satisfying whole. "Clean Cut" is the sound of the Police and R.E.M. if they'd stayed true to their indie roots into maturity, while "Virginia Creeper" could be Matthew Sweet fronting Sunny Day Real Estate. The vocal interplay between guitarist Billy Peake and multi-instrumentalist Dan Gerken is the hallmark of the Miranda Sound and the rhythm section of bassist Sean Sefcik and drummer Scott Haynes shifts subtly and perfectly underneath it all. Engaged In Labor is an incredibly varied and compelling work and Miranda Sounds is only just getting started. -- by, Brian Barker for AMPLIFIER

Miss Alex White and the Red Orchestra Miss Alex White was abandoned in the woods until some friendly wolves allowed her to join their pack. She would eat raw flesh without thinking twice, sprint barefoot between the birch trees, and attack anyone who trespassed into her territory. One fateful day, Alex was encountered by three explorers, Dr. Wesley Kerstens, Eddie Altesleben III, and Eric Villa Esquire. Dr. Kerstens shot her with a tranquilizer gun, and Eddie & Eric grabbed her by the arms and legs. They gently placed her in the trunk of their car and took her to Warrendale, Detroit. It was there that they tamed her, groomed her, and taught her the magic of processed meat in the form of hot dogs. Since the magical autumn evening the three gentlemen taught Alex to walk upright on her two hind legs, the four have been inseparable. A result of their civilized union is a circular disc containing the primal ramblings of Alex, under the careful the supervision of her captors.

Mr. Airplane Man While the band's image and sound are nods to days gone by, its third album proves that good music is timeless. Rooted in raw country blues and fueled with a pinch of girl-been-wronged attitude and garage band grind, guitarist Margaret Garrett leans on blues rock riffs as drummer Tara McManus maintains a driving beat. The two pound out plenty of Stooges grit on noisy numbers like the title cut, while a raw, raucous juke joint blues influence comes into play on "Fallen." -- Playboy Magazine

Paper Airplane Paper Airplane, based out of Cincinnati/Columbus, Ohio, has set it's mark on creating music that never really goes where you expect it to go, and yet retains that feeling of flow and familiarity. Since 1998 singer/songwriter Ryan Horns has been writing under the name "The Last Hotel," but it was time for a change and a whole new focus on why and how music can be used to affect people. The key was the luck in meeting drummer Antonio Garza (Asher), bassist Jeremy Darwin Foltz (Planet-12, Pasquali) and keyboardist Teresa Kent. Together, the band has found a way to make creative songs that jump across the board from dirty rock to delicate acoustic melodies, while always staying original. Paper Airplane is set to document it's new music at Relay Recording, with engineer Jon Fintel this summer. Over the years, the band has supported such national recording artists as Mates of State, The Waxwings, Howlin' Maggie, the legendary Dick Dale, The Minders, The Damnwells, Watershed, Mayday, Pacific UV, The Trouble with Sweeney, The High Strung, The National and more....
